I am not a routine person. I resist it. But there are some things that have to get done regularly so that I don’t lose my mind.
1 – I run the dishwasher every night. When it doesn’t happen, it throws everything off. This is stolen from Dana White over at A Slob Comes Clean. She inspired me and I haven’t looked back since.
2 – I have to make the kids’ lunches every night. It took me years of making sandwiches while trying to push the kids through eating breakfast and finding the other shoe to realize that I am faster, don’t forget as much, and have a much better attitude if I can slap those sandwiches together before bed. But, at bedtime, I still have to drag myself into the kitchen to do it. Lunches are the bane of my existence, either way.
3 – I get the coffee pot ready the night before. So far all these are for the evening so that morning is less hard. That’s really all I can say about morning routine. Just make it less hard. And coffee helps with that.
4 – Empty the dishwasher first thing in the morning. Not first thing, but like before doing much else. Because I hate not being able to put dirty things in it because it’s full of clean things. And I unload it ideally when the toddler is strapped into his high chair. Because for some reason he loves pulling out the knives from the silverware and also trying to climb into the dishwasher. Kids are weird.
5 – I meal plan every week. I love meal planning. Well, I hate it, but I love the way I can not have to think about what I will be feeding the family once I’ve decided. Also, it makes me only buy the things we need when I’m at the store. So that saves our budget’s sanity. Seriously, though, I have been using Plan to Eat for years and it has changed my relationship to grocery shopping, meal planning, and recipe collecting. It is the absolute best. Give it a try free for a month!

I am linking with the fantastic five minute Friday folks today.
Sounds like you’ve got a good handle on the routine. I do hope you get to chill a little on the weekends?
I do chill a bit on weekends! There aren’t lunches to make! Haha And I definitely plan an “eat out” on either Friday or Saturday.
Thanks for stopping by!
Great routines. I will have to check out Plan to Eat. We could use some help in the meal planning department. I’m in the #67 spot this week.
Plan to Eat has been real advantage for me. I like that I can use my own family recipes instead of being assigned new recipes.
coffee in the morning. After that, its all up for grabs
Simplicity. I like it.
